Listening as an Open Chain — Listening to Artists’ Backgrounds

Last updated: December 26, 2025

We believe there is meaning in making artists’ backgrounds visible.

As stated in our manifesto, if we understand creation as an act that triggers chain reactions with the world, then revealing an artist’s background is also a way of revealing the history of those reactions.
Within that history, traces of how culture is formed and transformed can be found.

As an accessible way to participate in—and quietly observe—this process, we are launching a session in which artists create playlists on Spotify.

Artists connected to HASSHIKI, across different fields, will curate playlists in rotation.
What do artists who make such works usually listen to?
The sequence of tracks they select may function as a cross-section of the process through which culture takes shape.

Playlists will be updated and released on Spotify on an irregular basis, without a fixed theme or unified direction.
The latest updates will be shared via social media.
