HASSHIKI, together with Buddy Plants, a specialty shop dedicated to Platycerium, has launched a new session series titled “PLATYCERIUM SESSION|Plants × Sound.”
This project grew out of HASSHIKI’s ongoing BIO-ACOUSTIC SESSION. Rather than simply converting the bioelectrical signals of plants directly into sound, participating musicians respond to the form, ecology, names, origins, growing environments, and other characteristics of each Platycerium, developing them into sound through their own individual approaches.
For the first series, works featuring five different Platycerium plants and three musicians will be released.
Together with Buddy Plants, we plan to continue developing new sessions between Platycerium plants and musicians. We are also looking for collaborators interested in exploring a wide range of approaches — not only performances using plant bio-signals, but also music and performances inspired by the plants’ forms, ecology, origins, and other characteristics.
